test post

Taken from the pages of wank_report...

Num8 (now KurwaSuka) was a wolf furry who spent his days happily living in France, running the IRC channel #FursuitTV, making appearances on furry puppet shows, and just generally being known far and wide as an all-around nice guy. Until one day, when he was tragically diagnosed with brain cancer. Metastatic brain cancer.

Because he wanted to spend his last days with the friends he held so dear, a collection was taken up in his name to send him on a weeklong trip to the States, during which he would pay a visit to various furry gathering hubs (and also Disney World). Reports of the exact amount that was raised vary somewhat, but according to Pawpet, the community that was collecting on his behalf, around $2000 was donated to the cause.
This will not end well. )

Miike: Beyond Weird.

Takashi Miike is known for his extreme movies like Ichi the Killer, but the truth is he's not just an ultra-violence fanatic... he's just hands down the weirdest director I've ever seen.

Gozu: It starts out with gangsters, but then the cow-men handing out fliers show up.

The Happiness of the Katakuris: Have you ever watched a soap opera/black comedy/musical/live action/claymation/slice of life film?
The Great Youkai War: Miike manages to hold it in until the very laaast minute, and then the soundtrack erupts into glorious song as a single azuki bean falls beside Evil Overlord Youkai, who is wreathing himself in flames of hatred:

"Ah ah, Azuki beans, I love 'em
Azuki beans grow from love and peace
Not too sweet, like love and peace
Oh yeah, I love Azuki beans!"

Miike, seriously, what are you on?

NOOOOES MY TABLET

So my precious 6 x 8 Wacom Intuos 3 has stopped working. Well, to be more specific, every time I plug it in, it's constantly firing the alt key event so that when I try to type anything, it opens up the menus for my programs instead. Dragging the pen across the desktop leads to multiple lassos, because it decided it wants to fire right clicks every now and then, which breaks my drag and brings up the context menu. Finally, it keeps scrolling me downwards, making it nearly impossible to select anything/read/whatever.

Attaching it to another PC confirmed that it spreads the downwards scroll like a disease.

♫Don't know what you got... till it's GAWAAAANNNNN♫

There goes another 300 bucks. No way I can go back to A LESSER MODEL, and my warranty was up awhile ago. You can barely even read anything on the back of the tablet where the serial numbers once were. And for some reason, my new one isn't due to ship till the 3rd. THE THIRD. GAWARRRR

Leon :D

So, they're finally making a Resident Evil movie that does NOT feature Alice, which is good, because words cannot describe how little I care about her. Even better, this movie will feature Leon S. Kennedy.

I love Leon.

I love his kicking zombie heads off and suplex-exploding their skulls and snipering and even the way he puts his hips into hopping over small walls.

I am very happy. Eeee :D.

Mononoke 12

I am disappointed that the last arc of Mononoke did not end in an awesome fantastical battle like Bake Neko and pretty much all the other arcs did. Okay, there's Kusuri-uri making a :3 face at a cat, and a happy ending. But I didn't really identify with the wronged Setsuko that much. Yeah, terrible things happened to her... but she was also a mouthy, snobby bitch who forgot the order of business when your superior tears up your story before your eyes: first get the hell away from the train tracks, THEN sell him out to another newspaper. If you do it the other way, what happens?

Setsuko: I'll just go to another paper!
Boss: Did you notice there are some train tracks conveniently located under this bridge?
Setsuko: Oh noes! Getting hit by a train! My only weakness; how did you know?

Alas. Alas.

I am very disappointed in you, Mononoke. Verrrry disappointed.

Twilight Princess, Take II

So the more I play this game, the more I like Midna, which is bizarre because I very rarely ever like fictional female characters. Zelda, for instance, sucks and I was extremely disappointed to find out she was somehow Sheik. But Midna is so cute and snarky and treats Link like a pet (which, in his wolf form, he really kinda is).

I am EXTREMELY disappointed that they reverted to the good old days of Control Scheme Where You Swim Like a Retard. The only way to maintain consistent steering while swimming is to a) not change your depth at all, in which case you can move around horizontally anywhere you please but not reach that ledge which is five feet higher or lower than you, or b) swim until your controls stop acting retarded and never miss your destination because if you want to make a tight turn or are off vertically by a foot or so and want to move SLIGHTLY UP OR DOWN, then GOD HELP YOU.

Pretty much no one EVER gets swimming right in 3d games, because for some reason, digital water shorts out developer brain cells and they're essentially coded by monkeys with keyboards instead of typewriters (I'm still waiting on the underwater Shakespeare). But a previous Zelda game DID get it right, and that's what makes the idiotic swimming controls in this game SO INFURIATING. In Majora's Mask, you launch yourself forward and continue swimming as long as you hold down A. Without directional guidance, you automatically right yourself and swim forward perfectly straight at the depth you started, and slight moves of the control stick can modify your course. However, as soon as you let go of the stick, you return to swimming straight again in a completely PREDICTABLE fashion and it is beautiful and right and good and you can even leap out of the water like a dolphin if you want and actually STEER.

It's awesome.

I also HATE the scheme for controlling item use. In the assignment screen, you can map up to three items to down, left, or right, but B in this case does NOT cancel out of the menu like it does for say, EVERYTHING ELSE, but rather maps an object to B. To exit out you have to press A. And when you get out, using an item is not a matter of pressing the direction you mapped it to, but first pressing that direction, plus B to map it to B to take it out and if you want to put it away, press A. The result of all this is a) I keep freaking mapping things to B, b) I keep hesitating because I want to press B to get out of my item use mode, but that just makes me use it instead, and c) I've wasted bomb after bomb because I pressed a directional button by accident out of the menu or B in the menu.

Twilight Princess!

Eeee Twilight Princess is the funnest game I've played in a very long time. Playing it makes me really tired, although it probably wouldn't get that worn out if I didn't...

a) Wander about while playing (I can't stand still for very long), and

b) SWIIIIIING.

I know you're just supposed to flick your wrist or whatever, but I can't do it. When I'm fighting, I have to swing >___>;;. I'm sure that when they come up with games where you actually ARE supposed to move around and crap, there'll be a bunch of really athletic Zelda fans out there. That said, I don't like being a wolf :/. I really like Midna, and it's cool that she's riding on me, but there's so much crap I can't do as a wolf that I'm used to being able to do as Link and I really have only one attack (the BITE OF JUSTICE).

Best Parts:
a) Whistling for a hawk (EEEEEEE, you look so cool, Link! But... is it really okay to use hawks to retrieve chickens o.O? Won't they be a little... taloned?)
b) Midna. She's really cute. I can't explain why I like her so much, because she's a total ass to me.
c) Swording enemies. Or, as Link would say, "HYAAAAA"
d) THE AMINALS. Like, tossing goats and holding puppies :3. Puppyyyyyy.

Lame:
a) Zelda. You suck.
b) Riding Epona. Her controls are sooo finicky. Blech.
c) What's-her-face, the one who has a crush on Link. Die in a fire.

Mononoke 10 - 11

This arc contains the return of quite a few seiyuu/characters from the original Bakeneko arc, but is set in The Future, where there are Trains and Stopwatches, and no one really dresses like Kusuri-uri any more at all. Sigh.

It's the grand opening of a brand-new train station, and the mayor (as well as a few other notable citizens, such as a delivery boy, policeman, and cafe waitress) are all scheduled to take the very first ride. Unfortunately, what was supposed to be a short, enjoyable trip quickly turns sour as a select few of the passengers are unceremoniously dumped into the first car and locked in, seemingly with no natural explanation. The next cars have disappeared (Silent Hill, anyone?) and the only exception to the rule of "no one gets in or out" appears to be Kusuri-uri, who, oddly enough, never seems to change his clothes. Ever.

It's quickly established that a bakeneko is yet again to blame (although this one's not as cool as the first one, or as angry) and that each of the people in the car have something to do with the mysterious suicide of a young woman named Ichikawa Setsuko, who was run over by a train. And, as usual, no one wants to divulge exactly what their connection is to Setsuko, despite the fact that it is rapidly becoming clear that her death was not really a suicide at all.

While it's cool to see the gang together again, their personalities haven't improved much (Although I'm assuming they weren't tacitly involved in the horrific kidnapping and brutal treatment of a young girl this time around). I like Mononoke and I like the random timeskip; I don't like the way this bakeneko #2. Okay, so the nature of the wrong done to the original victim influences the mononoke that results, but Bakeneko #1 looked like a rabid, sprawling, man-eating Cheshire cat whose very presence ate away at its environment. Its successor's mode of revenge appears to be MAKING YOU REAL ITCHY.

On the Care and Feeding of Spines/DA Scrappers (WIP)

You know, this is the second time I've created an unpopular build only to have people decide it was cool later. I'm not claiming to have invented spines/DA; I'm sure other people (who must have been extremely weird) tried it before me. But it was certainly before everyone and their mom was walking around alternatively spewing poisonous quills and wristcutting.

On an unrelated note, while I am on Raven (but also at other times) I am often asked  "Kur, why are you so awesome? How can I be awesome like you?"

I will tell you my secret.

Mukashi mukashi aru tokoro, I was thinking about making a spines/regen, maybe -- or maybe an MA/something. I was searching for two sets which would complement each other, and then I remembered -- although Quills was largely useless to me before, what if I combined it with another damage aura... say, Death Shroud? I had never thought of creating a dark/ or a /dark scrapper before because (let's face it) they look depressing. However, after I finally bothered to look at the /dark set, I realized...

1) Death Shroud, while completely useless to a jerk/friend of mine who thought he was some sort of a kat/dark scrapper-tank, was totally cool.
2) Many auras, including a disorient, a fear (*I* like fear, so shut up).
3) Dark regen is like the Howling Twilight of heals.
4) Self rez
5) Psi resist
6) Stealth!

Combined with the fact that Spines is the most badassinest AoE scrapper primary, we have a winner. Yes, you too can apply slows, toxic, and weirdass shit like slotting your fear aura for psi damage! Spines/dark... when it comes to PvE, it beats spines/regen like a red-headed orphan child.

Power Breakdown: Spines

Barb Swipe: No. Lame.  Long animation and crappy damage.
Lunge: A nice attack to have when you're growing up, although it becomes much less useful later. Standard melee single target attack.
Spine Burst: Make everyone's day a little worse by spraying poisonous spines in a nice PBAoE. You'll be using this often, because it's one of the best moves you have. Wheee!
Build Up: A must-have, of course.
Impale: This is a short ranged attack which aside from immobilizing enemies and doing some nice single target damage, also BRINGS DOWN FLIERS. EAT IT, LEAD SHOCKER. EAT IT. Just don't try to use this to pull, because they won't budge (immobilize, duh).
Confront: Not necessary. Quills + Death Shroud will make enemies PLENTY mad at you, and if that tank really really can't take you stealing his aggro, no sense fighting about it.
Quills: Mm, yeah. A PBAoE damage aura with slows. Plus it makes delightful noises when you stab things.
Ripper: You can actually hit more than one person with this if you line it up right.. but it's usually not worth my while. Still, some nice damage and knockdown.
Throw Spines This is the most satisfying move in your arsenal. Huge range, nice wide cone, and spines everywhere. It's spectacular for large groups, and almost impossible to miss. I mean seriously, if you miss with Throw Spines, you might have a future as our next vice president.

Power Breakdown: Dark Armor or Darkness Armor or whatever. Army of Darkness.
S/L def:
Murky Cloud
Obsidian Shield: Laugh at all the other scrappers (except SR, of course <3), because you have PSI RESISTANCE. You are, in fact, SO INCREDIBLY EMO that mental attacks can do little more than scratch you. In exchange, however, you will be knocked on your ass all the time.
Cloak of Fear: Apparently, scaring the crap out of people takes a lot of energy. Fear isn't the most useful thing to a spines/dark (seeing as how it's nullified by hitting someone, which you're doing all the time as an AoE scrapper). But it's kinda cool to have anyways and you can slot psi damage into it.
Disorient: The powers of darkness amass to give you enemies a severe helping of... vertigo. Yes, this power makes your foes wander around like drunken football players after a big game (which is to say, like football players).
Death Shroud: Same as quills, essentially, but you get it sooner and it's less resisted in the late game.
Self Rez: The ultimate sore loser power, this rez brings you back to life by stealing it from enemies around you. It also disorients everything in the area, because you're a jerk and hate everyone.
Cloak of Darkness: This power is cool because it makes you stealthy. It is uncool because it makes you invisible (STEALTH, DAMMIT, NOT INVISIBLE) except for your spines, which makes you look like s stupid bunch of floating bananas. For some reason, bad guys are INFURIATED by magical floating bananas, but that's okay, because they need potassium. Delivered involuntarily. INTO THEIR FACE.
Dark Regeneration: As I said before, the Howling Twilight of heals. For each enemy you hit, you get healed. I shit you not. It heals me around 300-400 HP per bad guy, which makes Beating On Lots of Things even more attractive; I don't get healed completely unless there's at least 2 or 3 jerks around to fuel my boundless rage.

Pros: ANNIHILATION AT THE SPEED OF AWESOME, slotting weird shit no one else can
Cons: Floating bananas syndrome, end, AVs

Win!

Last night Rad, Eva Valerius, and I ended up on the same team. Now originally, I was just looking for stooges because I wanted to see this fire tank Rad was bragging so loudly about (he compared him favorably to Raven, which I found hard to swallow). But it was fate and Eva saw my broadcast.

So we're chugging along with a bunch of random people and LO AND BEHOLD, it is a Devouring Earth mission. There are a couple things Raven doesn't like: accuracy debuffs, for instance, and being slowed. Luckily, DE don't have any of these (okay, there are swarms and whatnot, but for some reason which may or may not be related to the four or so PBAoE aura powers we had going, there weren't that many of them), because at one point Raven bounces right past a blind spot where there were about three more mobs of DE than he thought there were.

A classic OSHIT moment which perhaps may not have gone quite as well had I not been on Raven and thus more inclined to decide FUCK IT, LET'S POP TWO PURPLES AND WHEEEE.

What followed was several minutes of OMG WTF HAPPENING and KILL CAIRNS and THROW SPINES and WIN. In other words, we fought the law and won :).

I can still hear the delicious sound of quills tearing apart mutant plant flesh.

...okay, cell walls.

Ayakashi 09-11

The third arc of Ayakashi was designed by Takeshi Hashimoto. Actually, I'm pretty sure this is the same guy that did Gankutsuou (which also had a very distinctive style), so I wasn't surprised to see that Ayakashi's last story was also very stylized. The entire thing looks like it was lifted wholesale from a book or painting; in fact, there are some images (like that of the mononoke) that look just like old Japanese drawings. It was rather off-putting at first, as the characters aren't exactly attractive per se, but for some reason, the end result looks beautiful anyway.

Synopsis:
A mysterious kusuri-uri (medicine seller) appears at the house of the affluent Sakai family. It's the wedding day of the Sakai family's only daughter, Mao -- but all is not well. It turns out the only reason she's getting married is to cover the family's debts. Still, she approaches the whole affair with dignified grace... at least until she's violently murdered. As the only outsider in the house, the medicine seller comes under immediate suspicion -- even more so because he keeps muttering things about a mononoke (a sort of monster, for those of you who haven't watched any Studio Ghibli films).

All machinations between the house samurai and family members come to a screeching halt, however, when a mononoke does in fact appear. And as Kusuri-uri pastes up a mountain of ofuda in an attempt to keep the murderous monster at bay, he offers salvation to the terrified Sakai family.

All he asks for is three things: Katachi, Makoto, Kotowari.

In other words, what kind of monster is after the lives of the Sakai? Why does the mononoke exist? And what could have fueled the overpowering rage that motivates it to singlemindedly murder everyone in the house?

Without these things, it seems, Kusuri-uri is unable to draw the ominous-looking Taima no Ken he carries. Will he be able to squeeze out the information he needs from the tight-lipped, terrorized  family members? Or will the mononoke get to them first?

The Good:
Beautiful background paintings, Sakurai (the seiyuu for Cloud Strife) as Kusuri-uri...plus a murder mystery! This is an extremely eyecatching opening that easily looks like the most interesting of all the stories in Ayakashi. The final battle with the mononoke is also one of the most unique and stylish fight scenes I've seen in a long time.

The Bad:

The art style might be a little jarring for people used to the shiny, clean look you usually see in anime.  It's also not fast-paced, being more of a suspense/murder mystery/horror story.

Summary:
Greatly recommended :D
